The Sunrise Nine - Est. 1995
Sunrise is our newest nine, built on the east side of our property in 1995. Its layout, by the distinguished Canadian firm of RF Moote & Associates, makes use of some of the best techniques of modern golf. It's about the same length as Legacy, playing at 3,199 yards.
The 1st is a fun par-4 that measures 325 yards from the back tee and 295 from the front. It's not a long hole, but accuracy is important to your success here. "Really long hitters can reach the green off the tee," Myatt says. "There is hazard to the right, left and long with a waste bunker all along the left side and now, as of the fall of 2009, has two new fairway bunkers up the right side. The green has a false front and balls have been known to roll back down the hill which makes this hole a risk reward start to your day."
Sunrise 6 is a tough par-4 (418 yards from the back tees which are now located across the road and 330 from the front) with ponds to challenge your accuracy. "Off the tee, you need a shot that will lay up short of a pond or carry a long distance, leaving you a 120-yard second shot," Myatt says. "The green is located in a natural forest with bunkers front right and front left." A new feature has been added to the pond located on the left hand side of the fairway. A new rock wall will assist you in determining if you carried the pond, and adds a scenic feature to our newest nine.
You'll find a unique split fairway situation on the par-5 8th (472 yards from the back and 420 from the front). After your tee shot, you'll need to decide whether to make your second shot along the right fairway or the left one - or try to loft your ball over the grove of pine trees that lies in between the two options. "If you can hit a 270-yard tee shot," says Myatt, "you'll need a 200-yard second shot over some medium-height pines. But remember, those trees are growing taller every year."
