The Legacy Nine - Est. 1925
Our original nine, Legacy, was created in 1925 by renowned Canadian golf architect, Stanley Thompson, a name that has come to be mentioned in the same category with designers like Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast and Seth Raynor. Thompson is best known for the scenic grandeur of his layouts that include Banff Springs and Jasper Park.
This heritage has made Legacy a longtime favorite with local and visiting golfers. Playing from the back tees from 3209 yards, you're going to find rolling terrain on this nine with fairways lined with spruces and pines.
As you will read on the course renovations page, the Legacy nine has gone through some moderate and substantial renovations over the past few years. Small changes on Legacy 2 & 5 have brought back some old obstacles from the past, while changes to hole 3, 6, & 8 have made dramatic impacts. Legacy 3 & 8 can now pass as signature holes for our 27 hole golf course, and have created new challenges unseen here at Saugeen for some time.
One of the most difficult holes on Legacy, says our head golf professional Jeff Myatt, is No. 5, a par-4 measuring 415 yards from the back and 364 from the front. "The pressure is on here to make a successful drive around the dog leg to the right. In order to set up your shot into the green, your tee shot on this hole is crucial. Your second shot is to a green placed on top of the hillside, typical of a Stanley Thompson design, which means you need to add a club when selecting what to hit. This hole will make or break your round on Legacy as you can easily take a bogey or more on this most difficult par four."
